Article 10 : Turning Fun Soap Making Hobby Into a Profitable Business

Dear Soap Makers,

Soap making is a fun hobby to get into. It’s really fulfilling creating your own signature soap. I know a lot of people who really enjoy it and use it as a medium to express their creativity.

But did you also know that selling soap is one of the best businesses that you can go into? Even with a lot of commercial soaps being sold, there’s still a good niche in specialty soaps and homemade soaps. And the best thing about it is that it’s something you can start with a small capital and in your backyard.

If you’ve been making soap for a while and would like to know more about turning it into a profitable business, there’s a book I’ve recently checked out that talks just about that. It’s called “The Super Soap Making Book” by Sandy Simmons. You can read more about it here:

The Super Soap Making Book:
A Beginner’s Guide To Soap Making

What I really liked about this book is that it helps you focus and think about the important decisions you have to make to make your soap competitive and profitable. Things like costing and pricing, packaging, where and who to sell to, how to make your product unique, rules and regulations you need to be aware of, and more are covered. If you’re looking to go into making soap and turning it into a business, this is the best place to start.

Article 9 : Not another batch of failed soap!!!

Dear Soap Makers,

A lot of people CLAIM that making soap is easy. But those people who’ve actually tried it will often tell you that it’s more complicated that you think.

It’s unbelievable, but there are just so many places where you can screw up. You can screw up in your choice of ingredients, or your choice of equipment. (anybody else made the mistake of using plastic molds??). You can screw up the proportions of ingredients that you use. You can also grossly miscalculate the time you need to let the mixture brew or to let it cool.

If you are anything like me, you’d be scouring the Internet, looking for free recipes and free tutorials on soap making. Trust me, that’s the easiest way to get WRONG advice.

I’ve been getting it wrong until I decided to get a copy of The Super Soap Making Book. Yes, shock, I actually bought something! :D But it was worth it because this book gave GOOD advice, easy instructions, and recipes that actually turn out well.

One of the first recipes I tried was the 10 minute liquid soap recipe. It took me 20 minutes including the time to get all the ingredients ready. And on my first try - success!

So, for those of you who are tired of trial and error, who would like something that will actually work, my advice? Invest in good advice. You can start by clicking here:

Article 8 : Soap Making for Beginners

I’m often asked by those who are just starting out on how they can learn to become good at making soap. So today, this blog post is dedicated to all you newbie soap makers.

Personally, I learned how to make soap from my mom. It was something I saw her doing while I was growing up. So it was easy for me to get into it. But for those who are not as fortunate, here are the things you can do to learn this skill.

Search the internet. You can easily google information on the basic steps to making soap, or the various types of soap making techniques that you can use. All you need is patience to sift through the many sources of information out there and a bit of caveat emptor, because not everything you read in the net is accurate.

Sign up and join a soap making class. For those who would like to be guided through the soap making process by a live instructor, then signing up for a class is the way to go.

Get a book or a guide. For those who want to learn but don’t have the time to join a class, or would like to learn at their own pace, getting a book or a guide can really help. Even those who’ve already joined classes often find that having a book helps them practice and improve their soap making techniques.

There are plenty of books written on the subject matter. But for newbies, the best one that I’ve seen is Sandy Simmon’s “The Super Soap Making Book”. I like the fact that this downloadable book contained plenty of easy soap making recipes that beginners can really practice on.
